Maruti Suzuki is preparing a major refresh for its flagship subcompact SUV, with the 2026 Brezza facelift recently spotted during high-altitude testing. While the vehicle maintains its signature boxy silhouette, the update appears focused on addressing long-standing criticisms regarding performance and cabin tech.

Mechanical Overhaul: The 6-Speed Shift

The most significant development, confirmed by recent spy shots of the interior, is the inclusion of a six-speed manual gearbox. This marks a first for Maruti Suzuki's current petrol lineup, replacing the ageing five-speed unit. The extra gear ratio is expected to improve highway cruising refinement and overall fuel efficiency.

Speculation is also mounting that Maruti may finally introduce a turbocharged engine to the Brezza range. Industry analysts suggest the 1.0-litre "Boosterjet" engine from the Fronx could be added to the lineup, which would allow the SUV to qualify for lower GST tax brackets while providing the punchy performance offered by rivals like the Tata Nexon and Kia Sonet.

Cabin and Tech: A Premium Push

The interior is slated for a substantial digital upgrade to bring it in line with newer models like the Victoris.

  • Larger Display: A new 10.1-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen is expected to replace the current 9-inch unit, featuring improved resolution and wireless connectivity.
  • Comfort Features: In a first for the model, ventilated front seats and a powered driver's seat are rumoured for the top-spec variants.
  • Safety Tech: Reports suggest the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which would add adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist to the existing safety suite of six airbags and 360-degree cameras.

Practicality: The Underbody CNG Setup

For CNG buyers, the 2026 facelift reportedly adopts Maruti’s new "Underbody S-CNG" technology. By moving the fuel tanks beneath the luggage floor, the SUV will liberate significantly more boot space than the current version, though this may necessitate the removal of the spare wheel in favour of a puncture repair kit.

Exterior Refinements

The aesthetic changes appear evolutionary rather than radical. Look for:

  • Redesigned 16-inch alloy wheels with a "swirl" pattern.
  • Slimmer LED projector headlamps and updated "eyebrow" DRLs.
  • A connected LED light bar at the rear, following current industry design trends.

The 2026 Maruti Brezza facelift is expected to make its official debut during the upcoming festive season, with prices likely to see a marginal increase over the current range of ₹8.35 lakh to ₹14.15 lakh.
