Tripunithura: A day after the much-awaited housewarming ceremony, Sreenath’s family was in for an unexpected peril as the blast at the firecracker storage unit caused significant damages to their house. The house is situated in the vicinity of the Y.M.A road where the blast took place on Monday morning.

Glass pieces from broken windows were scattered all over the area, inside and outside the house. The lock on the balcony door and the glass railing were completely damaged. A portion of a bed broke apart. More than 30 windows are damaged. The bathroom doors are so damaged that they cannot be closed, Sreenath said.

“While enjoying my morning coffee, I suddenly heard a loud noise. At first, I thought it was a cylinder explosion. I ran to the kitchen and saw that there were glass shards everywhere. I somehow managed to switch off the cylinder. After we came out of the house, we learnt that it was the blast at the firecracker unit,” Lalitha, a native said.

A part of Lalitha’s house caved in due to the impact of the blast. She was alone at home when the incident occurred. Sahitha, another local resident, revealed that the explosion damaged the doors and windows of her house. Additionally, the car parked in the backyard also suffered damage.
