MP Suresh Gopi: Intelligent decisions needed for Wayanad rehabilitation

In response to the devastating landslides in Wayanad, BJP MP Suresh Gopi emphasised the urgent need for comprehensive data collection by the district administration, endorsed by the State government. Following his visit to the disaster site, Suresh Gopi remarked on the extensive debris and stressed the importance of factual reporting to facilitate informed decision-making.
"For the ground reality check, I have gone to the place where it cracked first and I have seen the quantum of the debris. All the concerned data should come from the district administration and that must be endorsed by the state govt also. Once it reaches me, I'll take it to the Prime Minister," said Gopi, emphasising on the necessity for diligent and intelligent decisions in rehabilitation efforts.
Suresh Gopi had visited the disaster-hit area in Wayanad on Sunday morning, interacted with army personnel leading the rescue operations, and held discussions with Minister Mohammad Riyas. Speaking to the media after his visit, the actor-turned-politician remarked that witnessing the devastation firsthand was unbearable.
"The pain lies in the fact that we cannot ascertain the number of lives lost due to such a tragedy. The pain intensifies when you see the condition of each body. There's also the pain of knowing that those buried deep may never be found," Gopi said.
"There is no need to use the word 'politics' in matters of this importance. It should only be used during elections. We will take note of what we saw here and hand it over to the Prime Minister. He may send a technical team later. I will meet the Prime Minister on Monday. Monday is a very important day at the Parliament. If I cannot meet him on that day, I will meet him on Tuesday. It is the state's responsibility to develop a rehabilitation package and inform the relevant authorities after thorough calculations," Suresh Gopi said.
