Shahna paid a dear price for loving Ruwais a bit too much; Family, friends struck with grief

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram medical college campus saw friends and teachers coming together to light candles and offer flowers for Shahna at a memorial service held here. Friends said that many were unaware of the deep sorrow she was in.
The gathered students and teachers took a pledge promising to never have to pay tribute to a friend again. Doctors are the ones who heal the wounded but not being able to recognize the pain of one among their own is a painful truth which shouldn’t be repeated, they pledged. They also decided to question the vice of dowry and called for a collective effort to oppose it.
KGMOA said that a group of 30 senior faculty members will be made available for facilitating the mental health and wellness of the doctors and students. A mentor will be assigned to three or four students. Efforts are being made to implement such a system next week onwards. This will be implemented in all medical colleges in Kerala.
“She has been good at studies since school. She loved him so much that the failure of marriage talks affected her deeply and sent her spiralling into grief,” says Jameela, Shahna’s mother sitting beside all the medals and laurels her daughter received during her short life.
Shahna completed her MBBS studies from Alappuzha medical college and joined the surgery department of Thiruvananthapuram medical college for her post graduation studies in 2022. This is when she met Ruwais and the duo began their relationship. If he had at least tried to console her, we wouldn’t have lost Shahna, her brother Jasim said.
MLA D.K Murali also came to console the family and demanded punishment for the culprits.
