Kerala HC allows in-camera proceedings on petition to ban 'Thankamani' release

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Tuesday allowed an in-camera proceeding on a petition seeking to ban the release of Dileep starrer ‘Thankamani’. 

The film is based on the events that took place in the village of Thankamani, Idukki, in 1986. Since the movie is approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a hearing in an open court would be against the interest of the makers of the film, informed central government advocate Suvin R. Menon. Subsequently, Justice Devan Ramachandran agreed to an in-camera proceeding since the film's plot would have to be revealed during the proceedings.

The Court set aside the hearing to Wednesday after directing the censor board to produce minutes. 

The petitioner had earlier approached the court seeking to remove the alleged fictitious scenes from the movie, which was disposed of by Justice Devan Ramachandran. The petition was settled after the Censor Board assured the court that the issues raised in the complaint would be examined during the screening. However, as the Censor Board gave certification to the film, a fresh petition was moved against its release. The secret hearing was heard in this particular petition.
