Noble appears for IG Lakshman days after being accused by latter of inserting remarks against CMO

Kochi: Inspector General of Police G Lakshman gave the vakalat to advocate Noble Mathew for seeking anticipatory bail in the Monson Mavunkal-linked antique fraud case. Interestingly, it comes days after Lakshman accused Mathew of inserting remarks against the Chief Minister’s Office on his plea seeking to quash the FIR registered against him in the case.

Advocate Noble Mathew on Wednesday appeared for the anticipatory bail petition filed by Lakshman, who is the third accused in the Monson Mavunkal-linked antique fraud case, at the high court. He further stated that the IG did not ask him to withdraw the petition, which had levelled serious allegations against the CMO, by even terming it as an “extraordinary constitutional authority."  Mathew also filed a request seeking to extend the interim anticipatory bail of IG Lakshman.

Interestingly, the plea for anticipatory bail was filed by another advocate. However, he has reportedly withdrawn from the case following the CMO reference row and due to that only Mathew took up the petition.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lakshman had written to the chief secretary withdrawing the petition, which sought to quash the FIR, explaining that advocate Noble Mathew, to whom he had given the vakalat, had added the references against the Kerala Government in the plea and stated that he had not seen the copy of the Criminal Miscellaneous case.

However, Mathew opined that he has not yet received any mail asking to withdraw the petition, which will next be heard on August 17.
