Kochi: In a dramatic development, a robbery has been reported from the sealed residence of Monson Mavunkal, accused in the antique fraud case.
According to the Crime Branch, expensive items were robbed from Monson’s house at Kaloor where his controversial antique items are stocked. However, no fake antiques have gone missing, said Crime Branch DySP Y R Rustom. Monson’s relatives also have complained about the robbery.
A total of 15 items, including traditional lamps, panchaloha and copper idols, were robbed. However, the house was not broken into. So the Crime Branch suspects someone with a duplicate key behind the burglary.
The DySP said the burglary came to their notice only when they reached Monson’s place to prepare a list of articles there. The key of the house was kept in a locker at North Police Station. There was security arranged there earlier. However, it was removed later, the DySP said, adding the culprit must be aware of it.
A complaint regarding the robbery was registered at the North Police Station. Further investigation will be done by the North Police.
