Palakkad: Four people, who were stranded in the middle of the Chittor River due to a sudden swell, were rescued by the fire force team on Tuesday. A fire force unit later arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the individuals, which included three men and one woman. Minister K. Krishnankutty also visited the location to oversee the rescue operations.

The water level in the Chittoor river rose after the shutters of the Moolathara regulator were opened owing to the incessant rains. This is when the four, including an elderly man and woman, got stuck in the river. The four individuals were rescued unharmed.

The four are Tamil Nadu natives who have been living in Chittoor for some time now. They regularly use the river to bathe and wash clothes. When they stepped in for their daily routine, the water level was normal, they said. But when the level began to rise, they took shelter on a high rock in the middle of the river.
