Wadakkanchery (Thrissur): After bravely fighting the odds in life, Merinda and her mother Ammini has rose to fame through social media. The mother-daughter have been running a food stall near Pallimanna bridge near Wadakkanchery river banks. A student of BCom, Merinda became famous with her skill in making 'Porotta' (the popular flatbread variety).

Hailing from Pangarappilly, Merinda is living with her mother. After her father abandoned the family years ago, her mother had to go for rubber tapping to make the ends meet. They have huge financial liabilities. She started the food stall five years ago.

First Merinda had to help her mother only for making tea and snacks. But later, the labourer who used to make Porotta left the job all of a sudden. With this, Ammini asked her daughter if she could manage making Porotta and Merinda bravely took up the responsibility.

Merinda proved that women also can make Porotta though it is a laborious task. The sales in the food stall continues from 12 at noon till 10 at night. Merinda makes Porotta out of 7-8 kilograms of flour every day. Also many customers buy parcels.

Merinda said that though college remains closed during the lockdown, she is unable to attend online classes too. She is second year BCom student in Thrissur Cooperative College.
