A scial media post by Mumbai-based lawyer has sparked intense conversation online after it showcased the monthly income of his private cook—fondly referred to as “maharaj”—who reportedly earns ₹2 lakh a month.

According to Adv. Ayushi Doshi, the cook visits 12 homes daily, spending just 30 minutes in each, and charges ₹18,000 per household.

The post quickly gained traction on X (formerly Twitter), where users marvelled at the cook’s income, work-life balance, and no-nonsense professionalism. Ayushi Doshi praised the man’s punctuality, adding that the cook also “politely declines” any new clients and is always home by 2 PM—effectively living a balanced, low-stress life while earning significantly more than many white-collar professionals.

Several social media users expressed admiration for the cook’s efficiency, viewing it as a refreshing counter to the conventional 9-to-5 grind. Some even compared the cook’s structured independence to freelancing or consulting, suggesting this as a form of “blue-collar entrepreneurship.”

Others, however, debated the ethics and sustainability of such income levels, particularly when contrasted with the economic struggles of other domestic workers. Some pointed out that while this individual’s success is noteworthy, it may not be reflective of the average reality for cooks or house help in India.
