Mayor-KSRTC driver row: Arya Rajendran and MLA Sachin Dev excluded from charge sheet

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have submitted the charge sheet excluding MLA Sachin Dev and Mayor Arya Rajendran in the case relating to obstructing a KSRTC bus. Only the Mayor’s brother Aravind has been named as accused.
The incident took place in April 2024. A verbal dispute broke out between Mayor Arya Rajendran and a KSRTC bus driver at Plamoodu in Thiruvananthapuram. The argument allegedly began because the bus did not give way to the private vehicle in which the Mayor and her family were travelling. MLA Sachin Dev, the Mayor’s husband, was also in the vehicle.
The Mayor had filed a complaint with the police on the same night, alleging that the bus was driven in a dangerous manner. There was also a case filed against the driver for allegedly making obscene gestures towards the Mayor and MLA Sachin Dev. Police had registered a case against the KSRTC bus driver in connection with the incident.
However, bus driver Yadu had alleged that it was the Mayor’s friends who used abusive language. He said he did not know she was the Mayor when the dispute occurred. They tried to overtake from the left side. He claimed he could not give them way due to lack of space and it was not possible to allow overtaking on the PMG one-way road.
