IMD issues rain warning for Kerala as South India braces for showers

The IMD has warned of isolated heavy rainfall in parts of Kerala, particularly in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki, where rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm is expected over the next 24 hours. Authorities have advised caution due to possible waterlogging, strong winds and landslide risks in vulnerable areas.
Thunderstorms with winds reaching 40 kmph may occur at isolated locations in Kozhikode district, while light rain is also possible in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki. Coastal regions may face disruptions due to strong winds affecting power lines, trees and weak structures.
In northern India, temperatures are gradually rising as winter conditions weaken. Delhi is expected to record a minimum temperature of 17°C and a maximum of 29°C, with misty mornings and rising weekend temperatures approaching 33°C.
Southern cities are expected to remain warm and humid. Chennai may see heavy rain in southern districts with temperatures between 24°C and 32°C, while Bengaluru and Hyderabad will likely experience partly cloudy and hazy weather.
Mumbai is expected to remain relatively dry with temperatures around 24°C–31°C. In Rajasthan and parts of central India, daytime heat may increase, with maximum temperatures nearing 35°C–37°C in some areas.
In the Himalayan region, scattered snowfall may occur at higher altitudes, although lower hill areas may receive only light rain. Unusual warmth has been reported in places such as Srinagar and Leh, where temperatures are above February averages.
Authorities have advised fishermen in South India to avoid venturing into the southwest Bay of Bengal due to developing low-pressure weather systems. People in rain-affected areas are urged to limit non-essential travel and stay in safe locations during thunderstorms and heavy rain warnings.
