Thiruvananthapuram: Summer showers have intensified across parts of Kerala, with heavy rain lashing Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts. An orange alert has been issued for the two districts for the next few hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned that isolated areas in Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur may witness moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph.

Yellow alert in multiple districts on Sunday

The IMD has issued yellow alerts for several districts, indicating the likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall on Sunday. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts are under yellow alert on February 22.
The IMD had earlier issued yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki besides Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam on Saturday.

A yellow alert signifies the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places. The IMD defines heavy rainfall as precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

Authorities have urged residents in alert districts to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging and strong winds.
