Gorakhpur (UP): A woman and her four-year-old son were allegedly beaten with a hot iron griddle (tawa) by the husband following a domestic dispute over a delay in making roti, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on the night of December 20 in Shastri Nagar under Gorakhnath police station limits. The victim, 30-year-old Radhika Sahani, lodged a complaint on Monday evening, stating that her husband, Lalchand Sahani, who works as a driver in Lucknow, frequently returned home intoxicated and indulged in violent behaviour.

According to the complaint, Lalchand asked Radhika to prepare roti around 9 pm, and when she was delayed due to household work, he allegedly picked up a hot tawa and struck her. Their four-year-old son, hearing the commotion, ran to the room and was also hit on the head with the tawa, suffering a serious injury. The child was admitted to the district hospital and is receiving treatment.

After the assault, the accused reportedly threatened to kill his wife before fleeing the scene. Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to apprehend Lalchand Sahani. SHO Shashi Bhushan Rai of Gorakhnath police station confirmed that efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

Domestic violence remains a pressing concern in India, with this incident highlighting the severe consequences of unchecked alcohol-fuelled aggression within households. Authorities have urged neighbours and locals to assist in locating the accused. The child’s condition is being closely monitored at the hospital, and legal proceedings are expected to follow once the suspect is apprehended.
