Ahmedabad Smart Parking Model reduces traffic congestion and boosts revenue and emergency response

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s smart parking model is emerging as a successful urban mobility initiative, improving traffic management, civic infrastructure, organised parking, and road safety across the city. By converting vacant municipal land into designated parking zones, AMC is reducing roadside congestion and creating legal and convenient parking facilities for motorists.

Currently, nearly 98 plots have been allocated for parking operations across Ahmedabad. Residents say the initiative has reduced vehicle towing incidents and made daily commuting easier and more organised.

The project is also contributing to municipal revenue, with AMC earning more than ₹2.62 crore this year through leased parking facilities. Free parking services have also been introduced at selected locations.

AMC plans to expand smart parking systems along major corridors, including C.G. Road and Science City Road.

Improved traffic flow has also helped emergency services, reducing average 108 ambulance response time from 10 minutes 02 seconds in January 2024 to 8 minutes 10 seconds by January 2026.
