‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ first reactions hail Tom Holland in ‘best Spider-Man film to date’

The wait for Peter Parker's next chapter is almost over, and if the first reactions are anything to go by, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be one of Marvel's biggest wins in recent years.
Tom Holland's return as the beloved web-slinger had its world premiere on Monday, with early viewers taking to social media soon after the screening. The initial verdict has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the film as an emotionally rich, action-packed outing that gives Holland one of the strongest performances of his Spider-Man journey.

Set four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, the film follows Peter Parker as he navigates life in a world where nobody remembers who he is. The emotional weight of that reality, including his distance from MJ, played by Zendaya, appears to have struck a chord with those who watched the premiere.
Among the first to share his thoughts was George McKay, who called the film "a spectacular love letter to Spider-Man" and said Tom Holland, Zendaya and Sadie Sink come together to deliver what he believes is the best Spider-Man film so far. He also praised the film for bringing fresh energy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
#SpiderManBrandNewDay is a spectacular love letter to Spider-Man as a character and the world surrounding him. Tom Holland, Zendaya and especially scene-stealer Sadie Sink blend together to make inarguably the best Spider-Man movie to date. The MCU is back and better than ever. pic.twitter.com/aFt3q8nJXk

Adam Hlaváč was equally impressed, saying director Destin Daniel Cretton and Tom Holland have poured their hearts into the project. He highlighted the film's balance of emotion, humour, action, cinematography and music, adding that the long wait for the film was worth it.

Film journalist Germain Lussier revealed that the movie left him emotional. He praised the way it handles multiple storylines at once, saying they eventually come together in a rewarding and heartfelt manner.
Don’t mind me. I’m just sitting here crying after watching #SpidermanBrandNewDay
It’s a massive movie that balances like 5 different through lines in equal measure, each better than the last. It can feel a little overwhelming but it all comes together so beautifully it works. pic.twitter.com/5dHvcF58Sk— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) July 28, 2026
Another recurring highlight in the early reactions is Sadie Sink, whose character has largely remained a mystery ahead of release. Jonathan Sim described her as a standout while praising the film's swinging sequences, emotional core and grounded approach to Spider-Man's story. He also credited Destin Daniel Cretton with taking the franchise in an exciting new direction.
#SpiderManBrandNewDay is a FANTASTIC experience.
It combines the heart of Peter Parker with the thrills of Spider-Man action. The swinging scenes are the BEST in years. A gorgeously shot film with a powerful message.

Erik Davis echoed similar thoughts, saying ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ feels more mature and thoughtful than the previous trilogy while still delivering the large-scale action audiences expect. He singled out the fight sequences among the best of Tom Holland's Spider-Man era and noted that the film blends detective elements, psychological thrills and humour with ease. He also said the mystery surrounding Sadie Sink's character pays off.
Destin Daniel Cretton's Spider-Man: Brand New Day injects a ferocious energy into Spidey's latest adventure, delivering all the thrills you'd expect from a Tom Holland Spider-Man movie while feeling deeper, more thoughtful and more mature than the previous trilogy.
