Kalamkaval, starring veteran actor Mammootty and Vinayakan, hit theatres on Friday and is already receiving highly positive reactions from audiences. Social media platforms, especially X, are abuzz with reviews praising the film's gripping storytelling and powerhouse performances.

One user wrote, “Jithin K Jose wastes no time to introduce the protagonist. Loved the character development without stretching the screenplay. Subtle and restrained performance from #Mammootty and #Vinayakan. The dramatic intermission works really well for the film.”

Another review called the film “a must-watch in theatres,” adding, “What a film! Such a superb performance from Mammookka. Career-best from Vinayakan.” A user remarked that the film will be actor’s first Rs 100 crores film.

“#Kalamkaval will be mammokka's first 90 cr+ grosser,” a user wrote in X.

The film is produced by Mammootty Kampany and also stars Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajisha Vijayan, and Shruti Ramachandran in supporting roles. The film, originally slated for release on November 27, was postponed and is now screening worldwide from December 5. Kalamkaval has been cleared with a U/A certificate.

The film has generated significant curiosity since the teaser dropped. The promo opens with a tense knock on a door, followed by a Tamilian asking, “Who are you?” The visuals then shift to a police interrogation, setting the tone for a gritty narrative. Vinayakan appears in a stern, intense avatar as a cop, while Mammootty is seen in a calm, composed look, shadowing someone with quiet menace.

Produced under Mammootty Kampany, Kalamkaval is their seventh venture, promoted with the intriguing tagline, “The venom beneath.” Earlier, the second-look poster featuring Mammootty had also sparked discussion, with the makers captioning it: “Some Faces Raise Questions... Not Answers...”
