Harshad Chopda shares childhood sexual abuse horror; Shivangi, Shreya reveal similar past

Actor Harshad Chopda has spoken publicly about a painful experience from his childhood during an episode of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa. The star told fellow contestants that he was sexually abused as a child by someone his family and local community trusted.

Harshad said he was around nine or 10 years old when the incident took place. He explained that he had been left in the care of trusted people and later found himself in a frightening situation that he did not fully understand at the time.

He described himself as a quiet and timid child and said he froze during the abuse because he was too scared to react.

"I was a shy and submissive kid. Somebody was rubbing himself on me in the night. Somebody was lying on top me and rubbing himself on me. I was fully clothed,” he said.

According to him, he pretended to be asleep and did not tell anyone what had happened.

“Nobody knew about the truth. The guy called me and said that he wanted to show me something and he lifted me up. He was picking me and doing things that I didn't understand. I didn't know how to question as I was scared,” he added.

During his conversation, Harshad said the experience left him with a long-standing fear of gay men, but he clarified that he does not hate the community. His comments were part of a wider discussion on childhood trauma and the emotional impact it can leave behind.

He also used the moment to appeal to parents, urging them not to leave children alone with others without care and to keep talking to them, even when children seem unwilling to share what is troubling them.

Shivangi Joshi breaks down

The episode also featured other contestants sharing personal stories as part of the show’s secret-sharing task. After Harshad’s revelation, actor Shivangi Joshi became emotional while recalling her own experience of childhood sexual abuse.

She said she had been molested several times by a man her mother trusted like a brother, before her parents stepped in to protect her. Harshad was later seen comforting her after she spoke.

Shreya shares her own story

Shreya Kalra also opened up about a difficult chapter from her life. She said she was molested by a cousin when she was 13 and had kept the matter private for years.

She explained that her family did not know about it, except for Rishabh Jaiswal, and said she never wanted sympathy. Shreya added that she chose to stay silent because she did not want her mother to learn about it and upset a family situation that was already fragile.

"I was molested by one of my cousins. I was 13 years old. My family doesn’t know about it; only Rishabh (Jaiswal) knows about it. I used to go to my nani’s house, where we used to sleep in the hall, and at that time, I didn’t even know what was happening. He used to grab me. I don’t want any sympathy. I am the last person to victimise myself. I don’t want people to sympathise with me when I go out. It’s just that I don’t want my mom to know it because the guy who did it to me, his mother had passed away, and my mom took care of him for almost three years. My real brother is getting married in November, and his last engagement was broken because I am in this industry and some controversies happened. So, I didn’t want this to come out. He is getting married, and he has a chance to be happy, and I think I am going to ruin it again,” she said.
