New Aadhaar app 2026: How to download, activate, and manage your digital ID

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has officially launched a brand-new Aadhaar mobile app to replace the older mAadhaar platform.
Built around the principles of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and data minimization, this new app ensures you only share the identity details that are necessary, whether you are checking into a hotel, visiting a hospital, or verifying your age.
What’s new?
- Selective information sharing:
Users can now choose exactly what Aadhaar details to share. Instead of displaying the full Aadhaar profile, the app allows sharing only specific information such as name, age, address, or photograph, depending on the verification requirement.
- QR code-based verification:
The app supports secure QR code verification, enabling users to prove their identity digitally without exposing unnecessary personal information.
- Face authentication integration:
A built-in face authentication feature adds an extra layer of security, allowing users to verify their identity through a quick facial scan.
- Biometric controls on mobile:
Users can instantly lock or unlock Aadhaar biometrics—including fingerprint, iris, and facial authentication—directly through the app, helping prevent unauthorized access.
- Authentication history tracking:
The app provides a detailed log of Aadhaar authentication activity, allowing users to monitor when and where their Aadhaar credentials have been used.
Multiple profile management:
Families can manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, making it easier to handle digital identity records for children, parents, or senior citizens.
Easy information updates:
The new platform enables users to request updates to their mobile number and address through the app itself, reducing dependence on physical Aadhaar service centres. UIDAI is expected to introduce additional update services in future releases.
