How to get a police clearance certificate online

Whether you need to travel abroad for work or studies, a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is often required. Thankfully, you don’t need to run from office to office anymore; you can easily apply for your PCC online from the comfort of your home.

This guide will help you with the steps to register, fill out the form, pay the fee, and book an appointment.

  • Register on the Passport Seva Online Portal by clicking the “Register” link on the home page to create your Login ID.
  • Log in to the Passport Seva Online Portal using this login ID created.
  • Click on the “Apply for Police Clearance Certificate” link.
  • Select your Regional Passport Office (RPO). Once selected, the instructions page will display the steps involved based on the service you choose.
  • Click on ‘Apply for Police Clearance Certificate, then complete the application by filling in the following sections:

Passport type

Applicant details

Family details

Address details

Other details

Self declaration

  • Submit your completed application. A unique Application Reference Number (ARN) will get generated.

You can save your application at any point and resume later if needed.

Carefully review and validate all details before final submission, as you will not be able to make changes once the application is submitted.

  • After submitting the application, click on View > Pay and Schedule Appointment to proceed with payment and appointment scheduling.

Payment of the applicable passport service fee is mandatory for booking an appointment at any Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

  • Use the Schedule/Reschedule Appointment link to book or reschedule your appointment (if payment has been made or an appointment is already scheduled).

Select the Online Payment option and choose the Appointment Quota (Normal/Tatkaal). Note: Tatkaal is available only for Tatkaal applications.

Choose your preferred PSK or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). The system will display the next available appointment date.

Verify all details and click Pay and Book Appointment to proceed to the payment gateway.

Complete the payment process. After successful payment, you will be redirected to the Passport Seva Online Portal, and the Appointment Confirmation screen will be displayed with your appointment details.

  • You may reschedule your appointment up to three times (only once for Tatkaal applications).
  • Click on “Print Application Receipt” to print your application receipt, which contains your ARN and appointment number.

Note: Carrying a printout of the application receipt is no longer mandatory. An SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment when you visit the Passport Office.

  • Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) on the appointment date with all necessary original documents.

Note: Only emergency/medical cases and certain pre-approved categories may visit a PSK without an appointment. Service will be provided at the discretion of the PSK in charge or passport officer.

For minor applicants (below 4 years of age), carry a recent passport-size photograph (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm) with a white background.

If you do not visit the PSK within 90 days of submitting your online application form, you will need to resubmit the application.
