Kuttanad, Alappuzha: A 28-year-old man met with a tragic end after being struck by lightning while playing cricket in a field on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Akhil P. Srinivasan, hailing from Edathua. His friend, Sharon, suffered minor injuries.

The incident happened around 3:30 PM. During the match, he received a phone call and as he answered, a lightning strike caused his phone to explode. He sustained severe burns on his ear, head, and chest.

He later succumbed to injuries at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Akhil, who worked as a welder, was also involved in Chundan Vallam (snake boat) construction.
