New Delhi: OpenAI has unveiled a research preview of GPT-4.5, its largest and most advanced model for chat yet, now available to ChatGPT Pro users and developers globally.

ChatGPT Pro users can select GPT-4.5 from the model picker on web, mobile, and desktop platforms.

“We will begin rolling out to Plus and Team users next week, then to Enterprise and Edu users the following week,” OpenAI, based in the US, announced.

According to the company, GPT-4.5 marks significant progress in scaling both pre-training and post-training. By enhancing unsupervised learning, GPT-4.5 demonstrates an improved ability to recognise patterns, make connections, and generate creative insights without relying on reasoning.

What makes it unique?

Early tests show that interacting with GPT-4.5 feels more natural.

“Its broader knowledge base, improved ability to follow user intent, and greater emotional intelligence (EQ) make it highly effective for tasks such as enhancing writing, programming, and solving practical problems. We also expect it to hallucinate less,” the company stated in a blog post.

“We’re releasing GPT-4.5 as a research preview to better understand its strengths and limitations. We are still exploring its capabilities and are excited to see how people will use it in ways we may not have anticipated,” it added.

GPT-4.5 was trained on Microsoft Azure AI supercomputers.

The model’s advancements have resulted in a broader knowledge base and a deeper understanding of the world, reducing hallucinations and increasing reliability across various subjects, according to OpenAI.

GPT-4.5 also has access to the latest information with search capabilities, supports file and image uploads, and can use canvas to work on writing and coding tasks.

However, GPT-4.5 does not currently support multimodal features such as Voice Mode, video, and screensharing in ChatGPT. “In the future, we will focus on simplifying the user experience so that AI 'just works' for you,” OpenAI stated.
