Max Verstappen has been the man to beat at the F1 United States Grand Prix in Austin, securing pole for both the Sprint and the main Grand Prix

The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix 2025 weekend in Austin has set a ferocious pace, defined by Max Verstappen’s qualifying mastery and high-stakes drama that saw both McLaren drivers crash out of the crucial Sprint Race.
The early sessions at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) signalled a tight battle between Red Bull and McLaren.
Practice and Sprint Shootout Results
In the opening stages, Lando Norris demonstrated strong form by leading the sole Austin practice session (FP1), finishing ahead of Nico Hulkenberg and his teammate Oscar Piastri.
However, the Red Bull resurgence began during the thrilling Sprint Shootout. Max Verstappen showcased his speed by beating both Norris and Piastri to claim pole position for the Sprint race.
Dramatic Austin Sprint Race
Saturday afternoon brought intense action with the Austin Sprint Race. Verstappen continued his run of success, winning the dramatic event.
The race was marred by major misfortune for the McLaren team. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri suffered a disastrous start to the race, with both McLarens retiring on Lap 1. This major setback shifted the focus immediately to the main Grand Prix.
Verstappen Seals Grand Prix Pole
Verstappen carried his momentum forward into the main Grand Prix qualifying session, confirming his overall dominance of the speed sessions in Austin.
The reigning champion successfully sealed pole position for the main Grand Prix. Norris managed to rebound from the Sprint disappointment by qualifying second, lining up alongside Verstappen on the front row. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc secured the third grid spot.
