The Proteas win an ICC title after 27 years

Brisbane: South Africa created history by winning the World Test Championship 2025, beating Australia by five wickets at the Lord's Cricket Ground.
The Proteas ended their ICC title drought. Since 1998, they have never won an ICC title. Kyle Verreynne drove the wide full toss through cover point, and the crowd could not hold on to their joy!
While Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc displayed a fantastic performance by taking their 300th test wicket in this series, the South African batting lineup including that of Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma overshone the Aussies bowling squad.
Markram slammed an unforgettable century, and skipper Bavuma scored a fifty at the most important juncture of the test, helping the Proteas chase the formidable 282 on day 4. For the unversed, Kagiso Rabada starred with the ball, taking nine wickets in the match.
Australia break records: Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc achieved the milestone of 300 Test wickets, becoming the first time in Test history that a bowling attack had three players with 300 or more wickets.
Post the historic win, Shukri Conrad, Head coach, of South Africa expressed his joy and excitement. “I am ecstatic about these guys. Something we don’t talk about is the bigger picture in South Africa, this one is for South Africa. We got the best of the batting conditions. When our two senior pros put that stand together, that’s where the game was won. I was the one to say Temba shouldn’t keep going but the partnership was critical, it didn't matter what the flow was, they know better than the coaches anyway,” he added.
