Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal sparked new discussions after sharing a now-deleted cryptic Instagram Story featuring a Delhi High Court ruling on alimony payments. The post included a news article stating that “financially independent wives cannot demand alimony from their husbands”, captioned by Chahal as, "Maa Kasam Khao Nahi Paltoge iss Decision Seh [swear on your mother you won't go back on this decision]." The story appeared to be a subtle commentary following his divorce from choreographer Dhanashree Verma.

Chahal and Verma’s separation began in June 2022, just months after their December 2020 wedding. Their divorce was finalised on 20 March 2025 at the Bombay High Court, with Chahal agreeing to pay an alimony of Rs 4.75 crore. During the final court proceedings, Chahal notably wore a t-shirt that read “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy,” sparking a flurry of reactions on social media.

In a candid podcast with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Chahal opened up about the strains in their relationship. He explained that despite maintaining a public facade, the couple had reached “a point of no return”. Chahal acknowledged that balancing cricket and personal life was challenging. He said, “Two ambitious people can stay together. Everyone has their own lives. Everyone has their own goals. As a partner, you have to support it.”

Chahal also revealed his mental health struggles following the divorce. He admitted to suicidal thoughts, extreme exhaustion, and difficulty sleeping, sharing that he sometimes slept only two hours a night and cried for extended periods. He described the impact on his focus and cricketing career, emphasizing how difficult it was for him.

The couple’s decision to keep their separation private until the final stages and the expedited divorce process at the Bombay High Court, which waived the usual cooling period. Chahal’s post and revelations underline the intricacies often involved in celebrity marriages and separations.
