Gavaskar had promised Rodrigues that if India went on to win the World Cup, he would join her for a sing-along session.

Jemimah Rodrigues’ standout performance in her career came during the 2025 Women’s World Cup semifinal against Australia, where she played a remarkable fighting century to guide India to the final. Her innings under pressure, chasing a massive total, was pivotal in securing a historic victory on home soil.
Following that match, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had promised Rodrigues that if India went on to win the World Cup, he would join her for a sing-along session. After India lifted the trophy, Gavaskar honoured his word on the eve of the Women’s Premier League. In a heartwarming moment shared on social media, Rodrigues and Gavaskar met, with Gavaskar presenting her a gift bag and a custom guitar shaped like a bat—symbolising her love for both music and cricket. The duo then sang together, with Jemimah strumming the guitar.
Rodrigues’ 127* while chasing 339 in that semifinal is considered one of Indian cricket’s finest innings. Now, she has taken on significant captaincy duties (skipper of Delhi Capitals) in the Women’s Premier League, stepping into the role formerly held by Meg Lanning and emerging as a leader for the next generation of Indian stars.
