New Delhi: Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has strongly denied writing an article that was falsely attributed to him on the cricket website Cricket Ception. The article, titled "A New Era in Leadership: Bumrah’s Captaincy and Kohli’s Leadership Revive Team India," was published on Friday evening, sparking controversy.
In a video shared on Instagram Saturday, Gavaskar clarified that he had no involvement with the article and demanded its immediate removal. The former captain also warned the website to issue a public apology or face legal action.
“Hi, this is Sunil Gavaskar, and I want to say that there is a website, Cricket Ception, which has printed an article under my name. I have to say that it is completely fake. I have not contributed that at all, and I want to tell that website to take it down immediately. Issue an apology. If you don’t do that, I will give the matter to my legal team. So don’t believe a word of what you’ve read. This is a completely fake article attributed to me,” Gavaskar said in the video.
Gavaskar also urged his followers to be cautious about online misinformation, writing in the caption of his Instagram post, “Never believe everything you see on the Internet #alwaysverify.”
The controversy comes amid India’s dominant performance in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at Perth Stadium, where stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah led the team to a commanding position. Bumrah took 5-30 as India bowled Australia out for just 104, marking the third-lowest total for Australia in home Tests since 2000. IANS
