R Praggnanandhaa added another glittering achievement to his remarkable 2026 campaign, clinching the Grand Chess Tour St Louis Rapid and Blitz title after a dominant display in Missouri.

The 20-year-old Indian grandmaster secured the championship with one round still left to play after drawing his final head-to-head clash against Uzbekistan's Javokhir Sindarov.

The result took Praggnanandhaa to 23 points from a possible 35, enough to ensure he finished at the top of the standings without the need for a playoff.

Sindarov ended an impressive campaign in second place with 22 points, while American grandmaster Wesley So completed the podium with 20.5 points.

Levon Aronian finished fourth on 19, while Fabiano Caruana, Leinier Dominguez and Jorden van Foreest shared fifth place with 17 points each.

For his title-winning performance, Praggnanandhaa pocketed USD 50,000 and collected 13 valuable Grand Chess Tour points.

The victory also propelled him to second place in the overall Grand Chess Tour standings ahead of the prestigious Sinquefield Cup, with Caruana continuing to lead the season rankings.

Praggnanandhaa was the player to beat throughout the five-day competition, maintaining his advantage despite a late surge from Sindarov.

The Uzbek grandmaster pushed the Indian star until the closing stages, but ultimately finished 1.5 points behind.

The latest triumph further cements Praggnanandhaa's status as one of world chess's brightest stars.

Earlier this year, he became the first Indian player to capture the prestigious Norway Chess title, another landmark achievement in an already memorable season.

Held at the Saint Louis Chess Club from July 31 to August 7, the tournament featured ten of the world's leading grandmasters battling across nine rapid rounds and 18 blitz rounds, producing 135 games in total.

The event awarded crucial Grand Chess Tour points ahead of the Sinquefield Cup and the season-ending Grand Finals.

The competition followed the traditional format of the tour, with rapid games played at 25 minutes plus a 10-second increment and blitz games at five minutes plus a two-second increment. Rapid victories earned two points, while blitz wins were worth one point.
