Nagoya: India's men's compound archery team completed a clean sweep of the discipline's team gold medals on Wednesday, edging past China 238-237 in a thrilling title clash at the Asian Games.

The victory marked India's 58th overall medal of the 2026 Games, comprising 10 gold, 21 silver, and 27 bronze medals.

Sahil Jadhav proved to be the talisman for the Indian side, maintaining a flawless 100 per cent record of hitting maximum tens throughout the final, backed by solid contributions from teammates Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam.

China opened the gold medal match with three perfect tens. Although Sahil and Ganesh began with tens for India, Kushal dropped a point with a nine, leaving India trailing by a single point. China sustained their faultless shooting in the second rotation; despite a nine from Ganesh and tens from Kushal and Sahil, India faced a 60-58 deficit, according to ESPN.

The Chinese continued to pepper the inner ring with tens, but India kept pace. A stellar third rotation saw the Indian trio fire three perfect tens to reach 148 points out of 150, while China managed a ten, a nine, and a ten, cutting their lead to 149-148. As the pressure mounted, China held a narrow 179-178 advantage heading into the final stretch.

Entering the concluding end, the Indian trio shot three tens, while China opened with an eight, subject to review, followed by two tens, preserving a precarious 208-207 lead. Sahil anchored the finish with another ten to cap his flawless performance, supported by matching tens from Kushal and Ganesh. Following a review of a Chinese arrow initially scored as an eight, India secured the narrow triumph.

Earlier in the day, Sahil, Kushal, and Ganesh overcame South Korea 236-229 in the semi-finals to book their place in the final.

The success followed a sensational gold medal performance earlier by the women's compound trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi, and Prithika Pradeep, who defeated China 238-234 while equalling South Korea's 2014 world record. The victory brought Jyothi her fourth Asian Games gold and maiden Asiad title to debutants Chikitha and Prithika.

Later, Chikitha and Sahil teamed up to capture the compound mixed team gold after prevailing over South Korea in a dramatic shoot-off, a result that also secured India a qualification quota for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
