Kollam: A moment of pride as a Malayali man becomes part of the Clipper Round the World Yacht race, a biennial competition that takes amateur sailors across the globe. The first leg of the race began from Portsmouth in the UK on Sunday. The second leg of the race is from Uruguay to Cape Town.
Kaushik, who is also the owner of Jellyfish Water Sports in Kozhikode is a part of this race. He will participate in the final quarter as well. A Goa native and an Indian living in the UK are also participating in the competition.
Kaushik is currently undergoing training in Britain. He will be participating in a boat called Ha Long Bay sponsored by the Vietnam government. The race divided into eight quarters beginning from the UK will end there after travelling across the world.
Some participants will be part of all the quarters while others will only participate in a few. There are 11 yachts competing in this race that will take 11 months to complete. Each leg of the race will be scored. Each team comprises 20 individuals.
