India fast bowler Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after sustaining an injury during the team’s warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai, sources told India Today.

Rana appeared uncomfortable midway through his spell on Wednesday, twice aborting his run-up before collapsing to his knee. He left the field visibly distressed and did not return. The 24-year-old bowled only one over, conceding 16 runs, before being taken for medical assessment.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has yet to issue an official update on the nature or extent of the injury, but sources confirmed that Rana will not take any further part in the tournament.

His withdrawal adds to India’s injury concerns heading into the campaign. Washington Sundar, who missed the recent New Zealand series with a side strain, remains in the squad and is expected to regain fitness shortly. Tilak Varma, who also sat out the New Zealand series, has returned to full training and featured in both warm-up fixtures.

India are scheduled to open their T20 World Cup campaign against the United States at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on 7 February.
