World Champion D Gukesh has kept his promise to his coach, and has gone bungee jumping at Skypark Sentosa in Singapore after winning the World Chess Championship 2024. Gukesh became the 18th World Champion at the age of 18 after defeating China’s Ding Liren last week at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.
He revealed that he had promised his coach Grzegorz Gajewski that he would bungee jump if he won the championship.
The Chennai boy has now shared a video of him completing the bungee jump at the Skypark Sentosa in Singapore to celebrate his accomplishment.
In the beginning of the video, the young lad admits being scared about his first ever bungee jump, but also adds that he is excited about it.
When he leaped off the platform for the jump, chants of “Gukesh!” echoed around from those below. Gukesh is seen shouting, “I am the world champion” in the jump.
Sharing the video on platform X, he captioned it, “I did it!” A user commented on the said video, “You did this twice - first with a mental leap when you won, and now with a physical jump!”
Returning to India on Monday, the young champion received a grand welcome at the Chennai International Airport. “Thank you for all your support. It means a lot to bring back the trophy to India,” he said to reporters at the airport.
