Thiruvananthapuram: Former Indian captain and international cycle polo player T Kumar passed away at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. He was 55.
He was the captain of Indian side that won the first World Cycle Polo Championship in Richland, USA, in 1996. He was also part of the Indian team that won the World Championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
In 2004, Kumar also got alongside Prince William in an exhibition match between Chelsea and Oxford in Britain.
He was selected nine times as the best player in the National Cycle Polo Championship.
Later in his life, he was invited to coach the Canadian national team but refused to take the job due to severe diabetes. With this, he retired from the sport in 2006. He is also a recipient of the prestigious GV Raja Award.
