CWG 2022: Avinash Sable scripts history; wins silver in 3,000 m steeple chase

Birmingham: Steeple chaser Avinash Sable bagged silver in the 3,000 m steeple chase ensuring India's fourth medal in track and field events at Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday. He achieved the sensational feet by setting a national record timing of 8:11:20. This is India's first ever medal in the steeple chase in tournament history.

27-year-old from Maharastra broke his record of 8:12.48, set at the 2022 Rabat Diamond League on Saturday.

Earlier, Priyanka Goswami scripted history as she became the first Indian woman to win a medal in the race walk with a silver in the 10,000 m event. Goswami clocked a personal best time of 43:38.83s to finish second behind Jemima Montag (42:34.30) of Australia. Emily Wamusyi Ngii (43:50.86) of Kenya took the bronze.
