India won the silver medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event at the Asian Games on Saturday, with Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey combining for a total of 1763.

China took the gold with a Games-record score of 1773, while Kazakhstan finished third with 1754 in a closely contested event.

The Indian trio stayed in contention throughout the competition, with the shooters competing across the three positions of kneeling, prone and standing.

Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod also secured places in the individual final.

Tilottama, ranked 107th in the world, finished the qualification round with 590 points to enter the eight-shooter final in third place.

Vidarsa, the world number 15, recovered well to finish sixth with a total of 588.

Ashi Chouksey, ranked 18th in the world, was also among the leading shooters during parts of the qualification round but eventually finished with 585 points.

In the individual qualification, Ashi and Tilottama both recorded 395 points in their respective stages. Ashi registered 25 inner tens, while Tilottama had 23.

The team silver adds another medal for India in shooting at the Asian Games.
