India added another gold medal to its Asian Games tally after Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet topped the 10m air pistol mixed team event with a record-breaking performance in the final.

The Indian duo combined for 484.6 points, not only securing the gold medal but also setting a new Asian record in the event. Their victory came after the pair had already set an Asian Games qualification record earlier in the competition.

The previous Asian record in the final stood at 481.3, set by Uzbekistan’s Mukhammad Kamalov and Nigina Saidkulova in February. Suruchi and Kamaljeet bettered that mark with a composed performance when the pressure was at its highest.

South Korea’s Hong Suhyeon and Choo Gaeun finished second with 478.0 points to take silver. Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan and Vahid Golkhandan won bronze with 415.8, while Indonesia’s Darmoyo A. and Prabowo M. finished fourth with 349.4.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet dominate from qualification to final

The Indian pair had already made their mark in the qualification round, where they posted 587 points with 29 inner 10s.

That score broke the previous Asian Games qualification record of 577, which had been set by fellow Indians Sarabjot Singh and Divya Subbaraju at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games.

The 587-point tally also equalled the Asian record previously achieved by Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker in 2021.

The pair carried that momentum into the final, maintaining their composure and producing consistent scores as the contest tightened. Their combined effort allowed India to stay ahead of the Republic of Korea and eventually finish with a clear record-breaking total.
