Nagoya: India's rising squash star Anahat Singh secured a silver medal for the nation in the squash women's singles competition, falling in the gold medal match at the ongoing Asian Games in Japan on Sunday.

Anahat lost to Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam 3-0, according to ESPN.

The contest lasted just 27 minutes, with Anahat dropping the opening two games 4-11, 4-11. Although the final game proved slightly more competitive, Anahat ultimately succumbed 7-11.

The result marked India's 32nd medal at the Asian Games, bringing the overall tally to four gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals.

Earlier, India's wait for an individual squash gold medal at the Asian Games extended as Abhay Singh suffered a 9-11, 5-11, 5-11 defeat against Malaysia's Ng Eain Yow in the men's singles final on Sunday.

Abhay, ranked 26th in the world, was unable to match the consistency of the Malaysian world No. 17 in the gold-medal clash, as Eain Yow wrapped up a straight-game victory to retain his Asian Games title, according to ESPN.

While the outcome earned Abhay a silver medal, it also meant he missed out on the direct Olympic qualification spot reserved for the men's singles gold medallist, ahead of squash's debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Abhay started the third game with intent but could not sustain his rhythm as Eain Yow progressively seized control to wrap up the match.

The silver represented India's 31st medal of the Asian Games, taking the nation's total to four gold, 13 silver, and 14 bronze medals prior to Anahat's final.

The 28-year-old Abhay had advanced to the final by defeating Pakistan's Muhammad Irfan 11-3, 12-10, 11-6 in the semi-finals, becoming only the second Indian man after Saurav Ghosal to reach an Asian Games singles final.
