A journey that began on dusty football grounds has culminated in one of the biggest transfers in world football.

Real Madrid have smashed their own transfer record by signing Cote d'Ivoire international Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal reportedly worth around €130 million, making the 19-year-old the most expensive player in the Spanish club's history.

The winger has signed a seven-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 30, 2033.

The move caps a remarkable rise for a player whose career accelerated at breathtaking speed over the past 18 months.

After joining Leganes' B team at the beginning of 2025, Diomande broke into the senior side and made 10 first-team appearances despite the club's relegation from La Liga.

His performances convinced RB Leipzig to invest around €20 million in July 2025.

The gamble paid off spectacularly as Diomande enjoyed a sensational debut season in Germany, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists.

He further enhanced his reputation with impressive displays for Cote d'Ivoire at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, attracting interest from Europe's elite.

Confirming the transfer on Thursday, Real Madrid announced that they had reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for Diomande's permanent signing, with the youngster committing his future to the club until 2033.

Speaking in a farewell message released by Leipzig, Diomande reflected on his time in Germany.

'Saying goodbye isn't easy for me. When I came to Leipzig a year ago, many of you didn't know who I was, but the club trusted me from day one and gave me a chance to prove myself at this level,' he said.

'I will never forget my first goal in a Leipzig jersey, nor that unforgettable evening when I scored three goals against Eintracht Frankfurt. I will carry those moments in my heart forever,' he added.

Diomande becomes Real Madrid's fifth signing of the summer after Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.

He joins an already star-studded attack featuring Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Endrick, Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz as Jose Mourinho continues reshaping the squad for the new season.
