Malappuram: Mohammedan Sporting Club will visit Malappuram on Wednesday as part of a charity match aimed at supporting landslide relief efforts in Wayanad.

The match, titled 'Let’s help Wayanad with Football', is intended to raise funds for the victims of the Wayanad disaster. Previously, the Kolkata-based team had visited Malappuram for an I-League match against Gokulam Kerala FC.

The exhibition match will be held at 7:30 PM on the 30th at the Manjeri Payyanad Stadium, where Mohammedan Sporting Club will face the Super League Kerala XI.

The Kerala Super League team will feature some of the best players from the six clubs competing in the Super League. Although the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had attempted to form a team including Malayalam players from the Indian Super League, the effort failed due to a lack of positive responses from the clubs.

Having secured promotion from I-League champions to the Indian Super League (ISL) this season, Mohammedan Sporting Club will field their first XI, which is undergoing significant changes. Organisers have assured that all necessary preparations are in place to ensure that fans who buy tickets are not disappointed. They are hopeful that the Payyanad Stadium, which has hosted packed galleries for the Federation Cup and Santosh Trophy, will welcome this charity match with the same enthusiasm.

Tickets Available Online

AIFF aims to contribute around Rs 50 lakhs to the Wayanad rehabilitation efforts. Ticket sales have begun online through the Paytm Insider app, with prices starting at Rs 199. Tickets are also available at Rs 299, Rs 399 (VIP), and Rs 499 (VVVIP). A special counter will be set up at the stadium on the match day for ticket purchases.

Foreign Expertise and Local Talent

The team, coached by Andrey Chernyshov, who has previously worked with the Russian national team and as head coach for the U-21 national team, has added five new foreign players this season. The new signings include Mirjalol Qasimov (Uzbekistan), Alexis Gomez (Argentina), Mohammed Kadiri (Ghana), Franca (Brazil), and Cesar Lobi Manzoki (Africa). The squad also features local players such as Mohammed Irshad and Mohammed Jasim.

The defensive line of the I-League champions includes the two stalwarts from Malappuram, highlighting the blend of local and international talent in the team.
