Napoli started strong in Serie A by going top of the table with a win over a 1-0 home win over Spezia, which put them ahead of AC Milan in goal difference. Even though it is early to write off the league or predict who will be the eventual winner, it is hard to ignore the fact that Napoli is a force to reckon with.
What makes Napoli a constant threat in Serie A is the mix of talented players in various areas of the pitch. Victor Osimhen, Giovanni Simeone, and Piotr Zieliński are some of the players who stand out the most. However, Georgian player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia duped as 'Georgian Maradona', is the kin pin of the Napoli attack.
The 21-year-old Georgian winger, recruited from Dinamo Batumi in the summer, has already scored four goals. His electrifying pace, dribbles, technical skills, and close control had already caught the attention of the footballing world. Named Serie A player of the month for August, Khvicha hit international headlines after terrorising Liverpool's defence during Napoli's outing in the Champions League. He showed off his skills again on the left flank as Napoli comfortably put Liverpool's defence on the back foot in a 4-1 win.
Playing in Luciano Spalletti's favoured 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 system, Kvaratskhelia is often unplayable in the final third. He reminds fans of Maradona, the Argentinian legend, for the similarity in the way both players use footballing IQ. Excellent close control through the middle often reminds us of Roman Riquelme or even Zinedine Zidane. With a searing pace and a wide range of skills in his arsenal, the Georgian player is physically strong to overcome the physical demands of Italian football.
Even Liverpool legend Alessandro Del Piero warned Liverpool to "watch out for Kvaratskhelia" ahead of their second leg match against Napoli on Wednesday. In 2018, Guardian listed him among the top 50 upcoming players in world football before he started playing in the top division.
