A report by The Telegraph has claimed that Indian football fans could witness one of the biggest international fixtures ever hosted in the country, with Brazil expected to travel to Kolkata with a near full-strength squad for their October 3 friendly against India.

However, the opportunity to watch stars like Vinicius Jr could come at a steep price, with ticket prices likely to be significantly higher than usual.

According to the report, senior officials of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) have indicated that, barring injuries, Brazil are expected to arrive with their leading names, including Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Endrick.

Newly appointed head coach Carlo Ancelotti is also expected to be on the sidelines for what will be Brazil's first senior international match on Indian soil.

Former India goalkeeper and current national team director Subrata Paul told The Telegraph that the discussions to organise the high-profile fixture stretched over nearly seven months, highlighting that arranging a match against a football powerhouse like Brazil requires extensive planning because of their packed international calendar.

The report noted that the fixture will also mark the highest-ranked opponent India have faced since FIFA introduced the World Ranking system in 1992, making it a landmark occasion for Indian football.

Paul reportedly described the match as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’ for Indian players, saying sharing the field with five-time world champions would be a dream for any footballer representing the country.

He added that while Brazil enter the contest as overwhelming favourites, India should still approach it like any other competitive match, viewing it as a chance to learn and raise their standards.

The report further stated that AIFF believes facing stronger opponents is essential for India's growth, pointing to recent matches against Canada, Jamaica and Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup as signs of improved international exposure.

Paul also hinted that if the Brazil fixture is successful, it could pave the way for future friendlies against other elite nations, including reigning world champions Argentina, although he did not reveal further details.

Beyond the football, the report highlighted Kolkata's deep emotional connection with Brazilian football, recalling the city's decades-long admiration for the Selecao that dates back to Pele's iconic visit in 1977.

Paul reportedly said Brazil would realise the scale of their fan following once they arrive, describing Kolkata as ‘like a mini Brazil.’
