London: Erling Haaland struck again as a revamped Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Coventry on Saturday, while Tottenham's search for their first league goal ended in another frustrating goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.

City are adjusting to life under new manager Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola's emotional departure, while a major reshaping of the squad has also taken place during the summer.

One of the club's marquee new arrivals, Enzo Fernandez, played a key role in the only goal. The Argentine midfielder supplied Antoine Semenyo, whose cross found Haaland, who headed home his third league goal of the season.

The victory leaves City with three wins from three Premier League matches as they prepare for next weekend's Manchester derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Maresca said victories in difficult matches were just as important as attractive football after City struggled to break down a determined Coventry side that created several opportunities.

"I really liked today for different reasons," the Italian told the BBC. "First half we could have scored one or two more, but we worked together to win so I am happy.

"It is difficult against teams in a low block, I felt we dealt very well with that. Anxiety from the fans is normal. Nine out of 10 of these games you end with bad feeling, but it is important to win 1-0."

Fernandez makes immediate impact

Fernandez joined City from Chelsea on transfer deadline day in a £125 million ($170 million) deal, matching the British transfer record.

The midfielder was handed his first start after Nico O'Reilly picked up an injury during the warm-up. Another new signing, Iliman Ndiaye, also made his City debut.

Maresca is overseeing a significantly altered squad following the departures of several established stars, including former Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, Bernardo Silva and John Stones.

England midfielder Elliot Anderson and teenage Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi were among the other major additions to feature against Coventry.

Tottenham held to another draw

Tottenham's difficult start continued as they were held 0-0 by Nottingham Forest, leaving them still without a Premier League goal this season.

Spurs spent heavily during the transfer window after consecutive 17th-place finishes and arrived at the City Ground following defeats against Brentford and Newcastle.

Forest had twice beaten Tottenham convincingly last season and appeared to have taken the lead midway through the second half when Neco Williams found the net following a defensive error.

However, VAR ruled out the goal for handball.

The result also means Forest remain without a Premier League victory this season, despite both clubs having narrowly avoided relegation last term.

Mudryk makes Tottenham debut

Ukrainian forward Mykhailo Mudryk, who joined Tottenham on loan earlier this week, came on in the 74th minute.

It was his first competitive appearance since November 2024 following a doping ban.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said he was pleased with the performance despite being disappointed by the result.

"Disappointed for the result but for the performance very happy, considering we started to work together last Thursday for the first time, for the first day," Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi told Sky Sports, referring to the end of the transfer window.

He added: "If we improve in the last third I think we can score many goals because we have the players with big qualities. Now is a tough moment to accept this result because I think we played well."

Brentford, Palace and Newcastle pick up points

Brentford were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland after Vitaly Janelt put the hosts ahead before Enzo Le Fee equalised from the penalty spot late on.

Leeds also drew 1-1 away to Brighton, while Crystal Palace defeated Fulham 3-2 after twice coming from behind. Tyrick Mitchell scored twice for Palace, with Ben Chilwell netting the decisive goal.

Earlier, Newcastle fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth, extending their unbeaten start in all competitions under new manager Matthias Jaissle.

Hull face Aston Villa in Saturday's evening fixture, while Arsenal and Chelsea meet on Sunday.

Liverpool secured their first Premier League victory of the season on Friday, beating Ipswich 2-0 under manager Andoni Iraola.
