Moments after Norewigian striker Erling Haaland agreed to a mega nine-and-a-half-year contract, English football club Manchester City posted a video of him warning defenders of other teams that he is here to stay.

Erling Haaland has committed his long-term future to Manchester City, signing one of the biggest contracts in football history, which will keep him in England for the majority of his career.

The Norwegian forward’s new deal includes a release clause that comes into effect in 2029, but according to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the buyout figure is set at a "very high number." Haaland’s contract extension marks a significant financial commitment from City, with reports suggesting the deal is worth over $180 million.

The 24-year-old striker's previous contract was set to expire in 2027, but this extension ensures his presence at the Etihad until at least 2031. By the time the new deal ends, Haaland will be 34 years old.

'I Am Super Happy'

Reacting to the announcement, Haaland expressed his joy at extending his contract and continuing his journey with Manchester City.

"I am super happy. I am proud. It is difficult to put into words because it is a big moment. I am happy, and that is the right word to use. I am super proud and happy, and I am looking forward to staying here for a long time," he said.

He also credited the club’s leadership, including manager Pep Guardiola, for their role in his decision:

"In the end, speaking with the people I spoke with, the hunger and the support that I have been getting for the last couple of years from the board, from the bosses, and from Pep, it was an easy decision. I am delighted."

City’s Star Striker

Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has been nothing short of prolific. He has scored 111 goals in 126 appearances across all competitions, solidifying his status as one of the world’s best strikers.

Haaland was a key figure in Manchester City’s historic Treble-winning season (2022-23), where they lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League. He added more silverware last season, helping City secure the FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Community Shield. Although an injury ruled him out of the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2023, City triumphed in his absence.

Reflecting on his two-and-a-half years at City, Haaland shared his appreciation for the journey so far:

"It has gone really quick. It feels like I signed a moment ago. I have been winning loads of trophies, playing loads of good football, and creating so many great moments with the club and fans."

He also recalled the celebratory Treble parade, calling it "one of the biggest and best moments" of his career.

Manchester City’s Future with Haaland

Haaland’s contract extension comes amid City’s ongoing Premier League title defense and their pursuit of further European glory. However, over 115 financial charges against Manchester City by the Premier League continue to loom in the background, with the outcome still pending.

Despite the uncertainty, City have made a firm statement with this extension, securing one of the most valuable players in world football for years to come.Â
