Guehi picked up a minor hamstring injury during England’s thrilling 3-2 round-of-16 victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.

England defender Marc Guehi remains a doubt for Saturday’s FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway, with his fitness set to be evaluated on Friday before a final decision is made. Midfielder Declan Rice is also racing against time to recover after being affected by a sickness bug.
Guehi picked up a minor hamstring injury during England’s thrilling 3-2 round-of-16 victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium. Both Guehi and Rice missed Wednesday’s team training session, instead following individual recovery programmes away from the main group, according to the BBC.
There was, however, a positive update for England as Reece James resumed training on Thursday. The full-back had been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in England’s goalless group-stage draw against Ghana and was unavailable for the win over Mexico.
Should Guehi fail to rejoin full training on Friday, his chances of featuring against Norway will be in serious doubt. Rice, meanwhile, sat out training for a second consecutive day while recovering from illness.
England manager Thomas Tuchel is also dealing with selection issues at right-back following Jarell Quansah’s red card in the victory over Mexico. The Bayer Leverkusen defender has been handed a two-match suspension, leaving England short of options in defence.

Quansah’s absence could prove significant against a Norway side led by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who has already netted seven goals in the tournament.
In another update, Jordan Henderson has rejoined the England squad in Kansas City after undergoing successful surgery on the wrist injury he sustained while celebrating the dramatic win over Mexico. Instead of returning home, the experienced midfielder is recovering with the team.
The England Football team confirmed that Henderson is recuperating at the team hotel following successful surgery on his arm after the injury suffered in Mexico City.
England’s focus is now fully on the quarter-final in Miami, with a place in the semi-finals — where either Argentina or Switzerland await — at stake. (IANS)
