Kansas City: England’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered an unexpected disruption after training equipment was reportedly stolen while being transported from the team’s pre-tournament base in Florida to Kansas City, prompting a police investigation and the detention of two individuals.

The incident occurred as equipment was being moved from England’s training camp in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri, which will serve as the team’s World Cup base during the group stage.

Members of the Football Association’s logistics staff discovered items missing when the shipment arrived and was being unloaded.

Kansas City Police confirmed they are investigating a possible theft involving a team vehicle. In a statement, authorities said two ‘subjects of interest’ had been taken into custody pending further investigation, although no formal charges had been announced at the time of writing.

While the Football Association has not publicly detailed the extent of the losses, multiple reports indicate that match boots, training balls and other essential equipment were among the items stolen.

Some reports suggested that boots belonging to star players, including England captain Harry Kane and midfielder Jude Bellingham, may have been among the missing items, though this has not been officially confirmed by the FA.

British media reports also claimed that tactical equipment, analysis tools, whiteboards and massage tables were part of the shipment, potentially creating additional logistical challenges for manager Thomas Tuchel and his support staff as they finalize preparations for the tournament.

The timing of the incident is particularly inconvenient for England, who are scheduled to hold their first training session at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday before opening their World Cup campaign against Croatia in Dallas next Wednesday.

The Football Association is now working with local authorities while also assessing what equipment needs to be replaced immediately.

The theft comes despite heightened security measures around England’s World Cup base.

The FA had already expressed concerns about security and privacy at its Kansas City training facility before the tournament, implementing additional protective measures around the site.

Despite the setback, England are expected to proceed with their planned community event and training schedule.
