
Mumbai: Football legends Xavi Hernandez, Michael Owen, and Rivaldo are among eight more global icons confirmed to join the highly anticipated Legends Faceoff, a showdown between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid Legends at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on April 6.
Joining them on the pitch will be Javier Saviola, Pepe, Phillip Cocu, and Christian Karembeu, adding more firepower to the historic rivalry.
Xavi, the midfield maestro with eight La Liga and four UEFA Champions League titles, is eager to relive the famed El Clásico atmosphere in India. “I’ve experienced some of football’s greatest rivalries, and now I can’t wait to relive it in front of passionate Indian fans in Mumbai. Get ready for a special night!” he said.
Rivaldo, the 1999 Ballon d’Or winner and a key figure in Barcelona’s history, also expressed his excitement. "Football is about passion, skill, and unforgettable moments. India, I’m coming to bring my best to Legends Faceoff! See you on April 6,” he said.
Owen, who won the 2001 Ballon d’Or and was part of Real Madrid’s La Liga-winning squad in 2004-05, echoed the enthusiasm. “India has some of the most passionate football fans, and I’m looking forward to stepping onto the pitch for Legends Faceoff. See you in Mumbai!” he said.
Defensive powerhouse Pepe, a three-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, is set to bring his signature intensity. “I’ve always loved playing in high-intensity games, and this will be no different. Looking forward to a night of great football in Mumbai!” he said.
Saviola, known for his clinical finishing, was a star for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, while Cocu and Karembeu brought their tactical brilliance to Barcelona, Real Madrid, and their respective national teams. IANS
