India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, found himself at the centre of an unwanted social media whirlwind on Sunday after being dismissed for a golden duck in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand.

The 35-year-old’s slump reached its nadir at the Narendra Modi Stadium when he fell to James Neesham on the very first ball he faced. In a chaotic 16th over that saw Neesham claim three wickets for just one run—including the well-set Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan—Yadav attempted a signature flick over deep square leg, only to be thwarted by a sensational diving catch from Rachin Ravindra.

Despite a promising unbeaten 84 against the USA in the opening stages of the competition in February, the top-ranked T20 batter has struggled for consistency.
