Galle: Day 4 of the 1st Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka saw the visitors consolidate their position, building a substantial lead. Bangladesh was all out for 495 in their first innings, while Sri Lanka managed 485 in response, trailing by 10 runs.

Chasing a nominal target to avoid a follow-on wasn't required, as Bangladesh opted to bat on. They scored 177/3 in 57 overs by the end of Day 4, with Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring 56 runs off 113 balls and Mushfiqur Rahim remaining unbeaten on 22 runs off 43 balls. Opener Shadman Islam scored an impressive 76 off 126 balls to strengthen the Bangladeshi position.

Sri Lanka, in their first innings, amassed 485 with the help of Pathum Nissanka's 187, along with Dinesh Chandimal's 54 and K Mendis' 87, respectively.

With a lead of 187 runs, Bangladesh is in a commanding position heading into the final day of the match.
