The Proteas now lead the series 1-0.

Kolkata: In a gripping contest at Eden Gardens, South Africa clinched a memorable victory over India by 30 runs in the 1st Test, marking their first Test win on Indian soil in 15 years. The win puts South Africa ahead 1-0 in the two-match series and breaks a long-standing jinx for the visiting side.
South Africa set India a target of 124 runs to win after posting 153 runs in their second innings. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma starred with an unbeaten 55, anchoring the innings on a challenging pitch. The South African bowling attack, spearheaded by spinner Simon Harmer, was superb, with Harmer taking a crucial four-wicket haul that played a pivotal role in stifling India’s chase.
India’s chase started with some promise but quickly faltered as key wickets fell, including notable dismissals of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Despite gritty resistance from all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, who tried to build crucial partnerships, the relentless pressure from Harmer’s spin bowling saw India’s middle order collapse.
The hosts were eventually bowled out for 93 runs, falling significantly short of the target. The last wickets were wrapped up by Keshav Maharaj, whose accurate spells sealed an enthralling encounter. South Africa’s disciplined bowling and fielding on a tricky Eden Gardens surface were decisive in securing this historic win.
