Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan married his long-time partner Sophie Shine in a private wedding ceremony on Saturday, February 21. The couple had been in a relationship for over a year, with Dhawan confirming their relationship publicly in May 2025. They had earlier announced their engagement on Instagram on January 12.

Dhawan and Sophie were first seen together during the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. The pair later appeared at a media conclave, where the former India opener hinted that he had found love again.

For the ceremony, Dhawan wore a cream-coloured sherwani adorned with floral motifs, while Sophie complemented him in a matching lehenga featuring a similar floral theme.

Who is Sophie Shine?

Sophie Shine is an Irish professional currently working as Second Vice President – Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation, a US-based financial services company, according to her LinkedIn profile. Reports indicate that she is based in the UAE, where she is believed to have met Dhawan.

She holds a qualification in Marketing and Management from the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her schooling at Castleroy College in Ireland.

The couple celebrated their haldi ceremony on February 20, with Sophie sharing glimpses from the pre-wedding function on social media.

Dhawan’s second marriage

This marks Dhawan’s second marriage. The cricketer formally separated from his former wife, Aesha Mukherjee, in October 2023, ending their 11-year marriage. The two had married in 2011. Aesha has two daughters from a previous marriage.

While granting the divorce, a Delhi court observed that Dhawan had experienced mental distress and noted his claim that he had been kept away from his son, Zoravar, for several years. The court recorded that these allegations were either not contested or not adequately addressed.

Dhawan was not granted permanent custody of his son. Instead, he was awarded visitation rights and permitted video calls for a reasonable duration in India and Australia, where Aesha is based. The cricketer has since stated that he was later blocked from virtual communication with his child.

With his marriage to Sophie Shine, Dhawan appears to be stepping into a new personal chapter after a turbulent period in his private life.
